The Academic Staff Union of Universities has declared a "comprehensive and total" strike proposed to last for four weeks starting today 14th February, 2022. The strike was declared at a press conference addressed by the President of ASUU, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, on Monday. According to Prof. Osodeke, the union tried to avoid the strike but the Federal Government is unresponsive to the union’s demands. The ASUU chairman also said ASUU NEC faulted the creation of new universities. He said, “NEC resolved to embark on the four-week roll-over total and comprehensive strike as the government has failed to implement the Memorandum of Action it signed with the ASUU in December 2020. “We invite all lovers of education to join our struggle for a greater Nigeria. Nigerian politicians keep proliferating educational institutions without prioritising education. “ASUU will not relent in its historic responsibility of advocating for an improved university system. “This is because it...

Allow Nnamdi Kanu Some Comfort - Judge Orders DSS

Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court has ordered that the DSS allow Nnamdi Kanu the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) some comfort. The Judge gave the order when the accused's lead counsel, Mike Ozikhome told her of the ill treatments meted out to his client and every inmate who associates with him in the prison. Speaking during Tuesday’s proceedings, Ozikhome disclosed that the IPOB leader was still subjected to solitary confinement. Responding, the judge directed the DSS to allow the IPOB leader to change his clothes and to exercise. Justice Nyako, however, informed the defence Counsel that "A detention facility is not a five-star hotel." “I don’t want to see him in these clothes again. This one is almost off-white. Also, make sure that you allow him to exercise,” Nyako said. Kanu is facing charges bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony before Justice Nyako.

March 22, 2020 Tosin Omoniyi The General Overseer of the  Redeemed Christian Church of God , (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday said the current outbreak of COVID-19 across the world will soon subside but will not be ‘completely eradicated’. Mr Adeboye, who addressed his congregation across the globe via a live broadcast on Sunday, also said God had revealed to him earlier in the year that the world would experience a ‘compulsory holiday’, hence his earlier call to church members to undertake a 50-day fast in January. The Redeemed Church, like many others across the nation, has stopped physical services, and resorted to online services in line with the directives of many governments to halt mass gathering. The directives were given as a means of curbing the coronavirus which has so far infected about 26 persons in Nigeria and killed thousands across the globe. “I have heard one prophet say the coronavirus will soon die. And I said ‘amen’. You know prophets are greater ...
